Day 1

Introduction

In the first lesson you will be introduced to painting outdoors. We begin with a plein air sketch using pencil to observe shapes and structure in the landscape. You will learn how to prepare your canvas and organize your materials for working outside.

We will also explore the basics of composition and how to select a strong subject, helping you start your painting with clarity and confidence.

Day 2

Colour and depth

In this lesson you will learn how to mix colors and use them with greater control. We will explore how light, shadow, and subtle color changes can give objects a convincing three-dimensional form.

You will also discover how artists create a sense of space in a landscape. Using simple perspective principles and atmospheric color, you will learn how to suggest distance, depth, and atmosphere in your paintings.

Day 3-4

Artwork

In the final lessons, it's your time to shine as an artist. Here, you take center stage and apply all the skills and knowledge acquired over the previous days.

You will choose what kind of artwork you want to create. It might be landscape, still-life or whatever else. Under the expert guidance of the instructor, you'll embark on the journey to create a unique artwork that reflects your personal style

The lessons take place in Heemraadspark, a picturesque and cozy park near metro station Coolhaven. The park is full of greenery, canals, wooden bridges, birds, and a creative atmosphere that makes it a wonderful place to paint outdoors. It is lively but still calm enough to focus on your work, located in one of Rotterdam’s most artistic neighborhoods.

There are also several cozy cafés nearby where you can relax after the lesson. The park is easy to reach by metro (Coolhaven) and tram lines 1, 4, 6, 7, and 11, and there is plenty of parking space in the area.

If the weather is not suitable for outdoor painting, the lesson will take place in my studio at Lijnbaan 129–131.
